Tables organise information into rows and columns. Timetables are a special kind of table that show times. We use the headings carefully so that we read the correct row, column and time entry.
Use a timetable
If a bus leaves at 09:10 and arrives at 09:45, the journey lasts 35 minutes.
Read both times from the timetable before calculating.
Complete a missing table value
If a row total is 20 and two entries are 7 and 8, the missing value is 5.
Use the information already in the table.
Worked example
A train leaves at 13:25 and arrives at 14:10. How long is the journey?
- Read the departure and arrival times carefully.
- Count from 13:25 to 14:00, which is 35 minutes.
- Count from 14:00 to 14:10, which is 10 minutes.
- The journey lasts 45 minutes.
