Number - number and place value

When we count in multiples, we do not move on by 1 each time. We jump by the same amount again and again. Counting in 2s, 5s and 10s helps us see number patterns clearly.

Count in 2s

Start at 0 and add 2 each time.

Each number is 2 more than the one before.

Count in 5s

Start at 0 and add 5 each time.

The pattern goes up in equal jumps of 5.

Count in 10s

Start at 0 and add 10 each time.

The tens digit changes by one ten each time.

Worked example

Count in 5s from 0 to 25.

  1. Start at 0.
  2. Add 5 to get the next number: 5.
  3. Keep adding 5 each time: 10, 15, 20, 25.
  4. Check that each jump is still 5.
